Classical and Special Relativity

Events belong to the physical world - they are not abstractions. We shall, nonetheless, introduce the idea of an ideal event that has neither extension nor duration. Ideal events may be represented as points in a space-time geometry. An event is described by a four-vector \(\textbf {E} [t, x, y, z]\) where t is the time, and x, y, z are the spatial coordinates, referred to arbitrarily chosen origins. Let an event \(E [t, x]\), recorded by an observer O at the origin of an x-axis, be recorded as

Calculus made easy

Considering how many fools can calculate, it is surprising that it should be thought either a difficult or a tedious task for any other fool to learn how to master the same tricks. Some calculus-tricks are quite easy. Some are enormously difficult. The fools who write the textbooks of advanced mathematics - and they are mostly clever fools - seldom take the trouble to show you how easy the easy calculations are. On the contrary, they seem to desire to impress you with their tremendous cl

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland

Down the Rabbit Hole. Alice was beginning to get very tired of sitting by her sister on the bank, and of having nothing to do: once or twice she had peeped into the book her sister was reading, but it had no pictures or conversations in it, “and what is the use of a book,” thought Alice, “without pictures or conversation?” So she was considering, in her own mind (as well as she could, for the hot day made her feel very sleepy and stupid), whether the pleasure o

Mathematics

Mathematics is the abstract study of topics such as quantity (numbers), structure, space, and change. There is a range of views among mathematicians and philosophers as to the exact scope and definition of mathematics. Mathematicians seek out patterns and formulate new conjectures. Mathematicians resolve the truth or falsity of conjectures by mathematical proof. When mathematical structures are good models of real phenomena, then mathematical reasoning can provide insight or predictions

Industrial Engineering

Industrial engineering deals with the optimization of complex processes or systems. It is concerned with the development, improvement, implementation and evaluation of integrated systems of people, money, knowledge, information, equipment, energy, materials, analysis and synthesis. It's also concerned with the mathematical, physical and social sciences together with the principles and methods of engineering design to specify, predict, and evaluate the results to be obtained from such s

Refactoring everything

Yep. Everything (mostly). There have been many changes that have broken almost every page. The main changes so far are: The PHP code has passed from procedural to OO to procedural to OO again. Now I think it'll stay as Object Oriented. All the modules and pages must be rewritten. So far news, degrees and subjects have been changed. New .popup has been designed. New overflow options have been defined (see it in any degree).

Summer 2013

I still hate my internet speed at summer! I wanted to review last summer's goals as well as defining new ones for the winter. I'm happy since I achived most of them. Goals for next winter: Make a list of goals for next winter. What did I achieve from last summer? [NOT] Find a partner interested to collaborate with me. I think the project has evolved enough as to someone to be interested in participating in it. [YES] Find an appropiate wiki engine for the files. If I

This is not a metasite. Not a site about the site. You come here to learn about one subject at a time, and that should be reflected in the page design. So I've decided focusing the page better. A single long page with a minimal menu at the top and two buttons for editing and a small footer with licensing and other document-specific data. In general, we could say it's a much simpler navigation scheme with some pros and cons: Advantages Much less clutter No  lateral

Love Etherpad

I love etherpad. If you've tried it, you surely love it too. Wouldn't it be great if pages like Wikipedia had some etherpad functionality? If you don't know what it is, I outline it here: You write on an online document. It gets saved. If someone is editing the same document at the same moment, they see automatically the updates. Nobody steps over the text of anybody. However, I don't know how this difficult this can be. I guess, a lot. There's a topic about this in CKe

My itch and finding Libre University's Arch-Enemy.

I read some time ago about every project's needing its Arch-enemy but it wasn't until now that I started thinking about it. First I thought about Wikipedia. It's not its great content what I dislike, it's the shape and functionality of it. However, recent changes (as the Visual Editor) are doubtlessly changing this. I looked further back where this project started. It was back in September, 2011, with a different domain name. I was just starting another course of Industrial En

What is a university?

Image for What is a university?

To define what a university is I first want to define what it isn't. It isn't where you: invest your money hoping to retrieve more later. waste your time hoping to get more money at a job. get stressed by exams have only one, right way to learn. deal with stubborn teachers. struggle with ugly, old web interfaces. A university is a place to acquire higher-level knowledge. That's it, to learn some complex stuff.

Why this project was born

Why did this project even start? Because I don't like how my university handles many things even when it's one of the best in Spain. It's even one of the best universities in Europe, according to some news they publish from some prestigious study, but still has so many pitfalls that I can do nothing but dislike it. Where does it fail so horribly? You pay or you remain stupid. This has more to do with the everywhere study plans, but I don't like this philosophy. Only stud

It's been a busy month and I just refreshed the browser without saving the previous post. The engine is working, with it's little flaws and quirks (which will be improved in the future), but it's working. If you create an existing subject, it moves the previous one to another tables and creates the new one. Some ideas for the future. The university willw have some official degrees and subjects. They will be neat, completely finished and very stable. Then, every student will be abl
